2010 Movie: Alice in Wonderland Review

With his latest project in the film industry, director Tim Burton delved into children classic and pulled some of its most favorite characters into a new dimension.

Burton's talent for bringing extravagantly bizarre and wonderful creatures to life is clearly evident on this 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland where we meet new characters meshed together with some of old familiars.

The film takes on an independent story-line, as it is not a remake of the original story found in the book (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll, 1866). Rather, it introduced us to a 19-year old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) who has fallen victim to the pressures of impending adulthood and the expectations that come along with it. Before long, however Alice one again finds herself tumbling down the rabbit-hole and into the fantastic and bewildering world of Wonderland, which she had previously only remembered as a childhood dream.

Upon meeting the Hater (Johnny Depp) one again, Alice soon finds out that things having changed quite a bit since her last visit and that the characters of Wonderland are suffering under the rule of the ruthless usurper, the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), who stole the crown from her sister, the White Queen (Anne Hathaway). With a littel help and encouragement from her friends, Alice sets out on an adventure journey to restore peace and justice to the magical underground world, also finding the courage to deal with her above-ground problems along the way.

Burton clainms that he wanted to create a solid story-line that would present audience members with something tangible to relate to, as opposed to having the film simply revolve around a character who wanders from one magical place to the next. This concept is clearly noticeable with the story building up to its eventual climax, as Alice become our strong female lead who undergoes the very human struggles of self-doubt and dealing with outside expectations. These in turn lead to personal growth and resolution.

After the successful Oscar Awards, the actor an actresses are now ready for their next movies. Just like Sandra Bullock, she's currently attached to a number of projects - including "Kiss and Rango" a romantic comedy set in Argentina and "One of the Guys" about a tomboy who discovers her girly side -- but nothing is in production right now. Don't expect to see her on the silver screen until 2011.

Jeff Bridges reunites with "Big Lebowski" filmakers, the Coen Brothers, to shoot a remake of "True Grift." The original won John Wayne his one and only Oscar. Who knows? maybe Bridges will pull Tom Hanks and win two trophies in a row. He's also set to reprise his role of computer geek - turned - cyberaductee Kevin Flynn in "Tron Legacy". That movie doesn't come out until December 17.

Prior to her amazing performance in "Precious", Mo'Nique was known for being a rauchy stand-up comic, the host of the BET talk show, and for appearing in movie like "Soul Plane" and Phat Girlz". Don't expect to much. When the reporters asked during an after-party whenther she now consider herself an actor, she replied, "Im a stand-up comedian who won an Oscar".

Finally, there's Gabourey Sidibe. She didn't exactly go home with trophy this past weekend, but she's definitely one of the biggest winners this Oscar season. The college student turned actress wowed everyone with her nuanced performace in Precious and then wowed everyone with her sassy charm and her encyclopedic knowledge on N' Synch on the talk show circuit. Conan O'Brien bubbed her "The best guest ever". She's already lined up a leading role in "Yelling at the Moon" opposite Tim Blake Nelson and Zoe Kravitz along with nailing a reccuring role in the showtime series The Big C.

Miley Cyrus has really gone far in her career, from the teenage act, now she's doing a more mature movie that will be team-up with her real-life boyfriend; Liam Hemsworth. After that very popular and successful task as Hannah Montana, she will now portray a new role in her movie "The Last Song".

Miley Cyrus met her boyfriend at the age of 17 and Liam, 19 on the set of their film in mid-2009. Hemsworth is an Australian native and had reportedly only been in the United State for three weekd and didn't even have an agent when he was cast in the role.

According to the film's director, Julie Ann Robinson, the two young actors hit it off from the start. Robinson says, "You could kind of tell from that very first day that the chemistry was there. There was no fear there from either of them".

For sure, Miley Cyrus fans is looking forward for this new movie of her. And this must be another good film of her that we must watch.

No Happy ever after for Brangelina??

Rumors say that the Hollywood power couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, decided to finally end their relationship. No happy ever after for the two, I guess.

Being together for almost 5 years, having 6 children- adopted kids Maddox, Pax, and Zahara; and biological children Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne, they are the picture of a perfect family. What could possibly go wrong? The world has been talking about the rumored split up of the couple, and different speculations about the issue have turned up.

According to some people, the couple has been seeing their lawyers for advice regarding the custody of their 6 children. Since it hasn’t been resolved, Jolie seeks for a restraining order against Brad. Ex’s are part of the issue between Brangelina. Sources says that Brad cannot take the volatile temper of Angelina, and recently meet up with Jennifer Aniston, Brad’s ex wife, to seek for advice. Jolie’s ex husband, Billy Bob Thornton, wants full custody of Maddox. They adopted Maddox from Cambodia last 2002, and she received the full custody of the child.

These are only hearsays at this point. The couple hasn’t made any official announcement as to what is the real state of their relationship. Let’s just wait and see what will happen next.

It’s a great year for Sandra Bullock! Her movie The Blind Side just grossed over $200 million, quite a record for a female lead.

That number alone got me just a bit interested in knowing what got the movie that record-breaking history. So, against my will and my tired body, I watched the movie yesterday. I saw the trailer so I knew it would be a good movie, but not great. I’m no football fan; I’m a fan of Sandra Bullock, but I don’t really always love her movies; and I’m always cynic of watching a ‘based on a true story’ movie ‘cause I find them too long and boring.

And so, imagine the look and tears on my face when I got out of the theater. I can’t help but admit that it’s probably one of the best movies of the year, and the best drama-slash-true-to-life-story I’ve seen so far.

The story is what you think it is—a black kid striving to find comfort from the cruel world, and a typical Southern family offering to give him a place to stay for a night until they adopt him and send him to college to play football.

This is the kind of movie I love to watch when wanting to be inspired. It’s always a breather to see films where good things happen to good people. In this age where animation and high-tech movies are legendary, a simple yet powerful film is a rare find. And The Blind Side is just like that, simple yet moving enough to engross movie lovers. And the best about this film is, it’s a football movie but manages to stay out of the typical football story plot.
